I led the award-winning design department at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis for more than a decade, developing and managing its brand identity across multiple media platforms. The design department at the Walker is unique among peers, integrating editorial, publishing, and visual communication strategies and is considered the leading model among museums worldwide. Design is conceived and supported in all aspects of the museum, with careful attention paid to all of its manifestations: in advertising, interior design, exhibition design, publication design, retail design, landscape design, and architecture. In 2009, the Walker became the first non-profit organization to win the prestigious National Design Award for Corporate and Institutional Achievement from the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, joining an elite group of design-led companies such as Apple, Nike, and Target.
A communications designer with more than thirty years of experience, I specialize in publication design and branding and communications strategy for non-profit institutions. I have had the pleasure of collaborating with talented professionals—photographers, videographers, illustrators, type designers, copywriters, and graphic designers—to realize a range of projects, from printed books and websites to videos and advertising campaigns.
